John Edwards: “America wasn’t built on Wall Street”

Posted by pointblankpolitics on September 4, 2007

John Edwards campaign manager David Bonior sent out a message to supporters about the Big News on Labor Day.

Over Labor Day Weekend, John was honored to receive the endorsements of two of the biggest unions in the country – the United Steelworkers and the United Mine Workers of America.

Combined with the support of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, John is now backed by more than 1.8 million union members and retirees – more than any other candidate in the race.

John was introduced by Steve Skvara – a longtime steelworker who is now retired and struggling to afford health care for himself and his wife.

People like Steve are what this campaign is about – John has fought for hard-working people struggling to get by all his life, and now he’s fighting to represent them in the White House.

Check out video from the endorsement rally below:

John Edwards is the worker’s candidate in this race. He is fighting for every man and every woman and every child in this country, so we can have a stronger middle class and a stronger future in America. He is standing up for workers and families, because he knows it’s all of us who have made America great, not just Wall Street.

Edwards Winning Over Unions: Steelworkers and Mineworkers Endorse

Posted by pointblankpolitics on September 3, 2007

Two more union endorsements were made today. John Edwards won them both. Check out the local Pittsburgh coverage here, with video.

 From CNN:

The United Steelworkers and the United Mine Workers of America announced their support of Edwards at a rally in downtown Pittsburgh this Labor Day. In a statement, Steelworkers president Leo Gerard said, “All of the Democratic candidates in the field share our values, and any one of them would be a major improvement over the current administration. But none of them is a more forceful advocate for those values than John Edwards. Senator Edwards is committed, as he has been throughout his life, to going to bat for everyday Americans and to changing a broken political system that leaves millions of Americans without a voice in their government.”

Edwards told the boisterous rally, “America was not built on Wall Street. America was built by steelworkers and mine workers.”

The United Steelworkers and the Mineworkers Unions today joined the Carpenters in the list of Edward’s Union Endorsements. His total union supporters is now up to 2 million, the most of any candidate with many more endorsements expected to be on the way.

John Edwards Ahead in the Poll That Matters

Posted by pointblankpolitics on September 3, 2007

There’s a terrific diary up right now at dailykos. I urge you to check it out if you haven’t already done so.

Here is the main bit though that I think sticks out.

Contest 1st 2nd 3rd
Dem vs Giuliani: Edwards 8% Obama 1% Clinton -3%
Dem vs Huckabee: Edwards 17% Obama 9% Clinton 8%
Dem vs McCain: Edwards 7% Obama 6% Clinton 2%
Dem vs Romney: Edwards 16% Clinton 11% Obama 9%
Dem vs Thompson: Edwards 14% Obama 7% Clinton 4%

As you can see, Hillary is even losing to Guiliani. John Edwards is ahead in all the general election matchup polls, for a matter of fact he destroys the competition, and these polls really do matter most. We all want to ensure a Democrat is elected President. With John Edwards we get the extra bonus, that not only is he the most electable, but he is also the most Progressive. It is quite possible we may never see this opportunity again for many years to come, so in 2008 we must make it happen.
